Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant

Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant ( or HTPP ) - one of the leading power plants in Armenia. Founded in 1963-1974, in the north-western part of city Hrazdan, it started operating in 1966 and immediately became a vital part of Armenian electricity production infrastructure.
==Hisroty==
The Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant is situated in the basin of the rivers Hrazdan and Marmarik, not far from their junction, at an altitude ranging between 1715-1730 meters above the sea level. It was planned in early 1960s and designed for operating in an inconstant climate zone. It was specialized for severe conditions such as its high altitude and high temperatures for one half of the year and very low winter-time temperatures ( as low as -21°C ) on the other.
The construction of the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant started in 1963. The first two co-generators/combustion turbines, of type PT-50-130/7 started being used in 1966. By 1969 two other co-generators of type T-100-130 started to operate. It was planned that Hrazdan TPP will provide power not only to Armenia, but also to the whole region of South Caucasus.
By 1969 the overall output capacity of Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant had reached 300 MW and the heat distribution capacity was 560 kcal/hour( 650MW ). From 1960 trough 1974 the second block of the power plant was built, which contained 4 condensing power-generators with a total capacity of 810MW. As the two blocks were close to each other, it was decided to combine the two stations into a state regional power plant ( SRPP ). The Hrazdan SRPP, with a total capacity of 1,110 MW, became the largest power plant of Armenia.
From the moment of activating the first power generating unit, till January 1, 2005, the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant has generated 143 billion kWh of electricity and 12.3 million kcal/hour of heat energy. The 1980s were the most productive years, when power generation reached 6.85 billion kWh annually, with the number of hours of utilizing the established capacity reaching 7,300 (83%). The largest volume of heat delivery was registered in 1990 – more than 950,000 kcal.
